I have heard people say you can end up making methanol instead of ethanol, which can kill you or make you sick. have you heard anything about this or had any issues?

now i'm not an expert in methanol production, but as I understand it methanol is made when heat and pressure break down plant cellulose such as wood. very small amounts of methanol CAN be made from making beer and wine if there is plant cellulose involved such as whole grain brewing but it's in such small quantities that it's harmless unless you're an idiot and try to distill the mixture and don't know what you're doing. In all the years I've been home brewing I've never done that.

It is very warm in my house like 80-85 F, the condom seemed to loose pressure after only 5 days and started deflating, does this mean the yeast is done?

i made essentially the same thing as that except i used welchs grape juice. and for the airlock i used a balloon, and cut a hole in the end, then ran a piece of tube through the hole and into the bottle of wine, then secured it with a rubber band for air tightness, and put the other end in a glass of water. i can ear it perculating as we speak. however i added a half cup of sugar into my gallon jug of wine, and .3ozof yeast. is this a correct amount?

i have a question if you made a contaminated wine (i let mine sit open and i put my mouth on the balloon) do you think if you distilled it, it would be ok to drink?
